"Following a special visit by Commissioner Christine MacMillan, the congregation participated in the international call for Christians to take on the Micah Challenge.

The morning service shared information regarding the details of the Micah Challenge, its purpose, and its goal.  The congregation also learned together about the details of poverty within Spain, as well as around the world.  At the end of the morning’s message on being the hands of Jesus, based on Mark chapter 1, the congregation was challenged to put up their ‘hands’ in support of those in need of help.

Approximately one third of the congregation of Madrid Central is either homeless or unemployed and currently living below the poverty level, so the call to take an active part in seeking justice for the impoverished hits very close to home.   The speaker urged the congregation to see this as a commitment not only to seek justice for the millions of nameless, faceless people but also for someone in their own congregation, perhaps even themselves.

The congregation responded to the call to raise their hand against injustice.  The white paper at the front of the chapel quickly filled with traced handprints, and commitments to ‘Do something.’, as William Booth put it.  Each signer was also given a small paper to take home with suggestions for carrying out their commitment."

"It's a greatest opportunity we have to stand in the gap and pray together in greater unity in our days !! There's greater need to continue to pray for our children. Thank you for connected us and the body of Christ to come together to pray and speak up for those who can't speak for themselves !! May He lead and guide us all in the future to see justice for our children and the poor."

"We used the Micah Challenge to kick-off a 5 week education/action series on social justice, advocacy, and religion. During the 5 weeks, we will be learning about the Millennium Development Goals and taking various actions to support US legislation in support of these goals."

Tanya, USA

"The children of Junior Church will present a bowl of sand and a bowl of fertile soil, with a chain of their handprints symbolising their commitment to work to end world poverty, at the end of the Harvest celebration 'Tasting the Earth' in St Edmundsbury Cathedral on 10 October."

Penny, UK

"More than 1,000 local churches in Bolivia, celebrated the World Day to combat poverty: 10-10-10, crying for God to help us solve the problem of poverty and reduce it to 50 percent through 2015.

In the cities of La Paz, El Alto, Caranavi, Oruro, Potosi, LLallagua, Sucre, Tarija, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Trinidad, were held Micah Challenge Committees and coordinated actions with the fraternity of churches in each city cry to God on this special day.

The excitement and joy felt by most people who have prayed and continue praying throughout the month of October, is that the task of fighting and praying for the reduction of poverty in the world is a task that moves us and we summons to serve people as an incarnation of the Gospel.

A big hug from the South American continent."

Juan Castillo, Bolivia

"I received some information via Charisma last week talking about the Micah Challenge...  So I read all the info, and our ministry joined with the prayer on Sunday 101010.  It was absolutely wonderful."

"When MC met with the First Lady on September 15, we had to make a presentation to the National Assembly of Cote d'Ivoire to all Members in the presence of Christians and the First Lady.  The First Lady not only allowed us to come every Friday for prayer vigils at her presidential residence but to come every Wednesday for the prayer cell of Deputies to the National Assembly.

We made a wide distribution of flyers and posters to pastors about 10-10-10 and we did an interview in the official newspaper of Côte d'Ivoire, Fraternité Matin, of October 9 to 10, on page 16.  We asked in return for pastors to send us the promise of hands, a film and photographs of their different times of prayer.

Also, we would like to share the difficulties encountered in organizing this program. There was some difficulty in terms of logistics which resulted in the last minute cancellation of the event in Abidjan (the largest), where we hoped 3000-4000 Christians and the local authorities would gather.

Currently we are doing a collection of handprints of the promise from around the country.

Some authorities (MPPs, Mayors, Chairmen of Councils) are absent because of the election right now, and they urged that we reorganize an event after the presidential election on October 31 2010. They will then come to express their commitment to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Côte d'Ivoire for their solutions to fight against poverty in their various constituencies."

Sylvie, Cote d'Ivoire

"Our church had their annual "weekend together" last weekend. We were meeting at the foot of the Blue Mountains in Mulgoa.  As we came to prepare for the activities for young and old we noticed that it was 10.10.10 on Sunday and that Micah 2010 had asked for support in Prayer and Hand-Prints. So we organized our youth to colour in all hand-prints which were drawn by all attendees and in our worship service we prayed the Micah prayer. Our theme for the weekend was The Lord's Prayer so for us to be able to act on the prayer .....thy Kingdom come..... was a great opportunity and made us recommit to justice in the world, because God showed his mercy to us in Christ Jesus."

St. Michael's Anglican Church, Vaucluse Sydney

"Switzerland has experienced one of the largest campaigns to stand against world poverty with over 100 registered churches for 10.10.10, thousand of participants praying and acting. More the 20 denominations  took part, reformed and evangelicals churches. About 4000 flyers with ideas how to contribute as individuals to reduce poverty have been distributed in the Swiss-German congregations. The exact number of hand-prints will be known in the next days when the the scrolls will be sent back to the national campaign office. We expect between 8000-10000 handprints.

This scrolls will be linked together on Oct 17th on the Places des Nations (all nations square) in Geneva in front of the UN Headquater to form a spiral of poverty (400 meters long) which we are determined to overcome within this generation. To illustrate this, about 100 young people will run in 8 groups (MDG'S) from the centre to the outside. We expect 500 Christians for this public event."

Peter Seeberger, Switzerland

"We did it!

On Saturday, the Ecuadorian government ended the ‘state of emergency’ in Guayaquil, although it continues indefinitely in Quito. This allowed us to participate in the ‘soccer game for peace’ this Saturday, with an attendance of around 6,000 people.

Yesterday, Sunday 10.10.10., we had the opportunity to preach about and pray for the 8 MDGs in the two services held by the “Iglesia Unión Misionera” (Union Missionary Church), reaching about 400 people. It was a beautiful moment when we were able to pray the pray of Nehemiah.

Finally, yesterday afternoon, from 4 p.m., we joined in the evangelical church’s march against violence in Ecuador. About 8,000 people marched down the main street in Guayaquil, giving testimony that as Christians, we are against violence. The prayer of Nehemiah was a special moment to present the 8 MDGS and to pray for what we were doing around the world."
Loida Carriel, Ecuador

Some quick quotes from our coordinators around the world:

“Zimbabwe will never be the same again” was the message I have been receiving from many people and we pray that it will be so in the name of Jesus.

Jonathan Chikumbu, Zimbabwe

By 2015, would we dare to ask that God would use us to change his people in this generation to a body that, without having to think about it, consistently and powerfully responds to injustice with justice?

John Beckett, Australia

Yesterday in Leipzig, we celebrated 9 October, which was an important day during the Peaceful Revolution in Germany in 1989. It was prayer and political action that led to that revolution and gave birth to the reunification of our country. It is so good to see that at this very place we can walk on in the same spirit to see God bringing justice to the whole world.

Alex Gentsch, Germany

I cannot hide my excitement today, and I cannot remember when the last time was that I felt the way I am feeling today - 82,599 citizens of Malawi participated in 10.10.10 today! The activities were of differing magnitude and nature, and were spread across the nation. The 82,599 figure accounts only for those whose leaders I have been keeping in regular touch with. I know many more people have taken part in 10.10.10 than what I have on paper - to God be the glory.

Lloyd Mtalimanja, Malawi

The India event was FANTASTIC!! What a glorious evening. The video is just uploaded now."

Kuki Rokhum, India

"1600 attended a major event in Parakou, from many denominations and churches. Praise and prayers gave glory to God and allowed participants to reconnect with their Lord and pray for the reduction of extreme poverty and hunger and for the development of Benin without forgetting the other poor countries of the world. The main message urged participants to follow the example of Job, who opened his doors to the poor and was rewarded by God. God has chosen us for one purpose: to continue his work. And that's what Micah Challenge continues through this campaign."

Jean Kpetere, Benin

"After three years, what excited me was to see many pastors preparing sermons on Micah 6:8, poverty, mercy and justice and other issues related to the world of the poor. It seems that the concept of integral mission is now on the agenda of the evangelical leaders in Portugal."

Joao Pedro Martins, Portugal

"What an enormous blessing to hear about all of your 10.10.10 activities.  God’s spirit is written all over this news! There is no way we could have accomplished these things without some holy help."

Jason Fileta, USA

"As I read all this in the early morning hours I give praise to God Most High, He is indeed God and deeply concerned about justice for the citizens of the different counties across the world that joined together to make yesterday truly a historical moment. We treasured the time to pray with others across the globe. God be praised."

Sophie Nyokabi, Kenya
