Vision and Aim

Our vision is to see a world free from extreme poverty.

Our aim is to establish a global movement to encourage deeper Christian commitment to the poor and hold governments to account for their pledge to halve extreme poverty by 2015 (the Millennium Development Goals).

Our mission is to be a global voice on poverty for Christians, encouraging them to learn about the issues, find ways to reach out and help the poor, and to fight for justice.

How do we actually do this?
In essence we advocate on the MDGs. This simply means we ask leaders to take seriously their responsibility for ensuring that our world has 50% fewer people stuck in extreme poverty by 2015. This might be by asking a local MP in Zambia to release funds allocated for health that aren't being received by the community. Or it might be asking Presidents and Prime Ministers to ensure their global Summit discussions keep the poor in mind.

And by 'we' we mean the Church. Therefore much of our work is in educating, training and resourcing Christians to get involved in this vital element of Christian mission. Much of this work is done in partnership with the Micah Network and Integral Mission

National campaigns have their own plans and strategies in order to remain locally relevant, and often work closely with other civil society groups such as the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP), and the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC). But from an international perspective we ask each campaign to choose 2 MDGs to focus their advocacy work up until 2015. We also establish some 'global moments' where all campaigns join together for increased impact! Micah 2010 is our next global moment.

Finally, we are working to provide a global response towards good governance and integrity in both public and private sectors, in high-income and low-income countries.

Our Values

  • Good News –The whole Gospel of Jesus as revealed in the Bible
  • Mercy –Turning compassion into action on behalf of the poor
  • Justice –Speaking up for those who have no voice
  • Humility –Walking the talk in our own conduct

Our inspiration comes from the Old Testament prophet Micah, who wrote, "He has shown you O man what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6v8)
