Nine young Canadians aged 13 to 23 had the chance to visit MPs this week to share their concerns about global poverty and urge action on maternal and child health (MDG Goals 4 and 5)...

During three days of preparation and action, the students had the chance to learn about Biblical teaching on poverty and advocacy, hear stories from experts about maternal and child health, and practise how to meet with a politician. They were also inspired when they attended a meeting where Ban Ki-moon spoke about the MDGs and Canada's response. The students were able to participate in the National Prayer Breakfast, which many of them really enjoyed, as it brought together faith and public life issues. They also had an opportunity to meet a high profile Canadian Christian Olympic athlete, who gave the keynote address on her faith and her recent Olympic experience.

Then they put all they had learned into action when they met with nine politicians - some Christian MPs, their local representative or some with responsibility for international development.

All the students were inspired to go home to their schools, colleges and churches to get them involved in 10.10.10 and the MC team was inspired to do a bigger event next year.

This was a wonderful example of positive, prayerful advocacy and very timely as Canada hosts the important G8/20 meetings next month.

The photos below show training, meeting an MP (Glen Pearson), and attending the National Prayer Breakfast.  More details and photos can be found at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7457866830&ref=ts
