FIVE CITIES REPRESENT GLOBAL CHURCH PROMISE TO REMEMBER THE POOR ON 10.10.10

Around the world on Sunday, October 10, 100 million Christians will pray together for those who suffer in poverty, and will promise to “remember the poor” (Gal 2:10).

As a symbol of the global church calling out with one voice, special 10.10.10 events will take place in 5 cities around the world - Sydney, Chennai, Zambia, London and Guayaquil.

Early on the day of Sunday October 10th in Sydney’s northern suburbs, Hillsong Church will host a service of worship and prayer with worship being led by Darlene Zschech.

Hillsong is a global Pentecostal church and in Sydney 20,000 people attend its services. They support development work for the poor in many locations, including anti-trafficking projects.

Hours later, Chennai, a city of over 8 million on the east coast of India, plan to hold a worship concert for up to 10,000 people, declaring that children’s poverty is a major area for action in India.

The event will be supported by a number of churches and charities including the Church of South India, World Vision, the AOG church, YWAM and Campus Crusade for Christ.

Promise handprints collected, along with a statement calling the Government to act on children’s poverty, will be presented to key politicians in New Delhi following 10.10.10.

From India to Zambia, where a unique signature event will take place in Lusaka, with a number of politicians invited.

Focus then shifts to London's event. Micah Challenge UK is in the final stages of talks with Jesus House about a large worship event to symbolise the depth and breadth of keen British action over global poverty.

Jesus House wonderfully symbolizes the global church with worshippers from many cultural and racial backgrounds from Nigeria to Portugal, and with many community projects in north London.

The final signature event is planned to take place in Ecuador on South America’s west coast, 20 hours after Sydney’s event. In the historic city of Guayaquil, the idea is that many Christians will gather in the town square on the afternoon of 10.10.10 to worship and celebrate God’s concern for the poor. There are plans for visits to be made to Congress in Quito - highlighting the prayer and promise actions!

10.10.10 will focus on our promise to the 1.4 billion people who struggle to survive, ten years after nations around the world committed to halve global poverty by 2015.

We hope that wherever we are – a mega-church in Sydney, a concert in Chennai or a family celebration in Guayaquil – we will cry out with one voice that echoes God’s heart for the vulnerable and poor.

On 10.10.10 we want Christians to listen to God, seek his wisdom and rely on his strength and guidance so that we can see 600 million people freed from extreme poverty.
