MDG6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Target 1: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS

Target 2: Achieve, by 2015, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it

Target 3: Have halted by 2015, and begun to reverse, the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

How does MDG 6 reflect God's heart and concern?

In both the Old and New Testaments God is seen to be a merciful healer.  Jesus both associated with those who suffered from the cruelest diseases of his day (Luke 5:13) and healed them (Mark 1:42).  When his disciples were sent out to spread the good news they were commanded to heal diseases and sickness among those they visited (Luke 10:9; Matthew 10:7-8).
