Shaken foundations

Twenty four hours ago the Micah Challenge International team were in conversation admiring the Micah Challenge work in Haiti.  On a road from the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, we had no way of knowing...

then that a powerful 7.0 earthquake had struck the island touching the lives of over 1 million people and killing people in their thousands.

And we didn’t know either that the disaster had already caused a massive response from the international community, drawing out our goodwill as we shared the pain of many people we will never meet.

This disaster was so huge that it was indiscriminate in its impact claiming the poor and privileged alike.  From the presidential palace to the Catholic Cathedral and the United Nations, the full spectrum of human life has fallen victim to the quake.

It’s a disaster we will be recovering from and talking about for years to come.  But in the midst of the death and despair we are already learning again that God has placed within all of us the ability to hurt for and respond to people we have never met but whom we strangely love.   In the face of suffering may that love always remain unshaken.
